we had a great time at Arid Peak! The hike kicked our butts, but we managed. The lookout needs a little maintenance, but it sounds like it was scheduled to be done. We loved the unique experience and the opportunity to be unplugged for a little while. Highly recommend, if you are up for a "rustic" experience with some quiet together time.

Loved this one. Hike was pretty painless and the lookout was old but so cozy!

BEAUTIFUL spot!! Do not trust Google Maps like we did to find the trailhead. There were tons of propane, plenty of kitchen supplies, but was running very low on TP. The huckleberries are abundant!

Brought a large group of friends and family up to Arid Peak and it did not disappoint! There were several flat spots near the fire pit to set up tents since the lookout realistically only sleeps 2-3 comfortably. Lots of little extras were available from past hikers such as propane and a hand saw. The smaller water jugs may need replacement so we hauled the 6 gallon monster up from the spring which was no easy feat but we did feel very accomplished afterwards! We used the longer hike from Slate Creek Divide as our access but was just as beautiful and scenic as the other hike is described. Smoke impacted our views but we had an epic full blood moon as our reward for smoky skies! A great weekend with great company in a beautiful north Idaho location away from the hustle and bustle of fishing and hunting season along the St Joe River- we had a great time and can’t wait to come back! Be aware that water is not easy to come by out here and the stairs to the lookout are steep! Come prepared and you will have an excellent time.
