We’ve gone for several years now. It’s a really lovely place if you’re looking for some time away from others and to disconnect. We mostly go for the hiking and fishing. There a few trails and creeks nearby, and a LOT of options if you’re willing to do a little exploring, most within an hour’s drive. It helps to have an app that tells you what’s public and private as the whole area is kind of checkerboarded that way, and it can get confusing (although there are some signs). You’ll see lots of wildlife in the area: antelope, chipmunks, owls, hawks, deer, elk, hummingbirds. They’ve done some updates the last couple years, and the new couch and electricity is appreciated. When they say no potable water, you can do dishes and shower with the water, but you need to bring your own drinking water. It’s so isolated (about an hour from Douglas) that there’s no phone service, but that suits us just fine. It also isn’t like a regular rental, in that they expect you to fully clean it before you leave. We’ve always thought it was a small trade off for the inexpensive rental price, and kind of take pride in getting to help maintain a historic building. It sleeps 6, but if you have a bigger group, there’s a campground about a mile further down the road that could accommodate the more adventurous of your group. It’s a great spot. We’ve recommended it to so many people.
