It was great. Sorry to see so many disrespectful people who feel the need to carve their names in the logs. I really prefer not knowing who they are unless It's in notebook .

Al Taylor cabin is a jewel in the Forest Service cabin rental program. One point where the cabin falls short is the forest's/district's livestock authorization of grazing. The intensity of use that seems to be authorized based on my mid-July visit and the continuing presence of cattle remaining outside the cabin's exclusion area leads this retired rangeland management specialist to believe that the priority is to maximize livestock production from this unit of our national forests at a cost to other resource values. Dispersed campsites have become sites of intense livestock impacts to soil and sites of heavily concentrated manure. Note that some cattle manure was also present within the cabin fenced enclosure. While the grazing resilient vegetation communities present adjacent to the cabin enclosure may be able to withstand this level of grazing, recreation values are significantly impacted by this intensity of use. As a professional, it is my opinion that the diversity of floral species present under this intensity of use has also been impacted, resulting from selectivity by grazing animals. Wildlife habitat and the diversity of species including insects has likely been negatively impacted as the result of selective grazing of these floral species. While I would likely return to Al Taylor cabin in the future, I hope that the Forest Service has evaluated the grazing authorization within this unit and considered information provided to them by a number of renters in the cabin log regarding livestock grazing.

The cabin was wonderful. Such a unique and perfect place. There were lots of cows ranging in the area but unfortunately that seems to have kept away the wildlife. Cows make some pretty unique sounds though! I would have given the cabin 5 stars but for our disruptive neighbors in the Steel Creek Group Campground who decided to spend 2 hours illegally shooting off rounds during our stay. For a truly serene experience, rent the group campground too so that no one is there to bother you and you can feel safe exploring the area.
