love the Maxey cabin

Tons of mosquitoes, The pets got lots of ticks which some got in the cabin . Mice droppings everywhere and a big nest in one of the cabinets , Beware of hantavirus!

This is one of my favorite places on earth. The cabin is clean and cozy and the french doors that open to the deck are a wonderful bonus. We saw deer, elk, and black bear right in front of the cabin. Gorgeous views over the meadows and of the mountains in the background. The bunk house is an added bonus giving more sleeping room and storage for our stuff. The road from the highway is only about a mile long and easily passable. The directions are a little incomplete as the forest service road is not labeled. Turn off at the Hood Creek Trail parking lot and the gate to the road is right there. The small creek next to the cabin was not flowing enough to get adequate water but there are hand water pumps at both campgrounds just down the road. We filled two 6 gallon water containers and that last us several days. Overall a wonderful place to stay and easily accessible. Thank you USFS for preserving this great facility and sharing it with the public.

The only recommendation I have would be to split the wood into smaller pieces. Most of what is there is too big to burn in the campfire.
