Redfish Cabin is a fantastic location and very valuable resource for public enjoyment. Organization and maintenance could use some improvements, however. The propane heat stove was vastly superior to the noisy electric wall heaters, but hasn't been fixed for several years. The combination futon/bunk bed has been inoperable even longer. There are recurrent issues every year such as broken shovels, missing door weather-stripping, etc. that could be monitored more closely. Since the cabin is used by staff in the summer and maintained for that purpose already, the several thousand dollars in rental fees might be used for some improvements over time. Fortunately, renters take quite good care of it since maintenance visits seem to be infrequent. Some visitor advice: Take a gallon or two of water per person per day unless you want to melt snow or boil surface water, which can be quite a chore. Lots of paper towels and several 13-gallon garbage bags are very handy. Prepare like pack-in/pack-out camping but with the convenience of heat and electricity (and intermittent/weak cell coverage).

What a great treat this place is for the area. We saw a fox on the full moon and played cards all night.

Our family of four really enjoyed having Redfish Lake almost to ourselves for 48 hours. The cabin was equipped with the essentials and the electric heat was more than sufficient. We enjoyed walks ON the lake, snowshoeing up to the ridge, and sledding right in front of the cabin. This sled was also super helpful for us to haul gear in and garbage out going to and from the cabin from our car. (The snow covered road was well packed and we didn’t need snowshoes or traction devices). Definitely would go again.

Needs better cook pans! Coffee pot is broken. The mattresses are not too comfy. Maybe bring pads. Otherwise 5*
