Great base for hiking and exploring nearby sites such as the Amerind Museum and Kartchner Caverns. Shaw House is spacious and comfortable.

Great base for hiking and exploring nearby sites such as the Amerind Museum and Kartchner Caverns. Shaw House is spacious and comfortable.

We had a wonderful time hiking and saw lots of deer! The area is beautiful and there is the Cochise Stronghold Camp Ground nearby with hiking trails. We hiked the Cochise Trail to the pass! As far as the house, it needed cleaning when we got there! We spent an hour with Clorox, dusting and glass cleaner and cleaned the floors, kitchen and bathroom! The wood burning stove in the living room was not in working order! We would have used it if it had been! We recommend bringing your own cleaning materials and cleaning rags! Also brought our own camp box with frying pans that were in good shape! Bring candles in case of electricity outage! We brought our own broom and dustpan! Would love to see the Forest Service give this place some love! It needs towel racks, painting and texture in many places! Sad that it is not being taken care off! The reason for the 4 stars is the area is amazing!
