Wonderful experience. Well maintained and clean. The documents on the lookout’s history were so fun to read. There is a spring about 3/4 mile away but it is bushwhacking to get to it and the walk back up is steep. Wish we’d had more time to hike to Shook Mt but we did make it to Rocky Knob.

A beautiful view! Make sure the follow out the written instructions on recreation.gov to get to the trail head. Both the google and Apple Maps link took you to the wrong stop.

The hike in carrying water is tough, not enjoyable for anyone with fitness issues. The spring is worth finding, extra water makes a difference. The lookout is full of charm and well stocked. We were first there for fire season and smoke blocked the views but the next year the sky was unobstructed and the views and stars at night were amazing. Take care of this lookout, it is special.

Beautiful, well-maintained lookout. It is QUITE a hike to make in the middle of summer though, especially since you have to pack in all your own water. However, would highly recommend; fantastic views.
