Stayed during winter. This prime hiking area is breathtakingly beautiful. The large cabin itself seems neglected. The small holes in the back roof may be where the rodents enter that some guests complain of. You must keep all food in a closed container but that is to be expected for a rustic experience. There is however a difference between rustic and dilapidated. The cabin is in disrepair. Several glass windows are broken and taped up with duct tape. The doors are not much better. Besides the provided wood, the cabin is not serviced by the forest service during the winter and it was extremely dirty. It is definitely not cleaned by every guest as requested. The furniture in the living room is disgusting but your dog may appreciate that. The cabin sits less then 100 ft off of the KANCAMAGUS. It was peaceful during the winter. It must be terribly noisy during the summer high traffic.
