Very nice! The boys had a day off of school and we always wanted to visit the powerhouse. Mitch, the caretaker, gave us a great tour. We really enjoyed ourselves! They hadn't shut the water off yet so we didn't have to run to the outhouse all the time.

Forest Service Ranger Staci was very enthusiastic and informative on the phone prior arrival. Mitch, part-time employee/grounds keeper of all four rentals and the PowerHouse Museum, gave us a tour of the Fremont Powerhouse in JULY, and he shared tons of history about the property. Leave him notes. He's there nearly each day. Really nice guy. It was a great experience for the whole family....sharing rooms, no internet, no AC, trading chores (hand washing dishes), one bathroom shared by all 9 of us---one clawfoot tub with a shower hose, and relaxing on the giant picnic table at the free-flowing pond. A real experience and trip into the past life styles ( I can honestly say my grandkids got an authentic experience of life in the 1950's!!) We played games and cards at the giant family dining table till all hours of the night. Fun fun fun. Would strongly consider renting CONGO GULCH house if ever we visit again. Pets had a great time, too. Olive Lake (7 miles up the mountain) was primitive and beautiful. Perimeter lake trail was worth the walk. Dogs on leash in campgrounds but not on 2 -mile perimeter trail. Kids swam right off the two boat docks. We spent two afternoons there with picnic food and floaties. No mosquitos yet in JULY!! (or maybe their season was finished with all the high heat???) I left a few little notes about shortage of silverware and drinking glasses, so bring some of your own supplies just in case. Paper towels, TP, and forks, spoons, bowls for cereal were not very well stocked. We made it work.....coffee cups were multi-purposed and washed a lot! No screens on the windows upstairs, but the bugs were pretty minimal.
