Beautiful rustic cabin with a whole valley pretty much to yourself (there is one other ranch but not super close)

Loved our time at Mingus Ranch. No better way to immerse yourself into early 1900s mountain ranch living. The area is beautiful--the cabin overlooks a large meadow. There are numerous trails and unpaved roads for exploring. We drove for miles up the mountain and saw numerous types of wildlife. The original Mingus cabin is simple in design yet roomy for a party of six. One upstairs bedroom has a full bed, the other a twin bed and a set of bunk beds. The downstairs bedroom has a twin bed. There is an electric stove with a minimal set of cookware but minimal electric lighting. Previous visitors usually leave some supplies for the next guests--matches, bottled water, trash bags, etc. A vault toilet, picnic table and campfire ring are located outside, as well as a horse corral. No drinking water is available so it's important to bring plenty. Other items to bring include bedding, food, garbage bags, dish soap, sunscreen and other basic camping gear. There are no electrical outlets--probably to reduce risk of fire--so bring flashlights. We found Mingus Ranch a nice base of operations as we toured Bishop Castle, Canon City, Royal Gorge, etc. But it's also a great place to sit and enjoy nature.
