While the cabin is difficult to get to, it certainly has charm and isolation. Be prepared to unlock two gates. The view is amazing and the cabin is warm and cozy. I could not find an axe to chop wood, but had warm September nights at the cabin and really did not need a fire. Make sure to bring everything you need. There really isn't much more the a few forks, spoons and coffee mugs at the cabin.

We loved our stay at Little Bear Cabin. The cabin was warm and cozy despite the wind that raged outside. The view of Bozeman is magical and the peaceful remote setting restorative.

We stayed here the last weekend in April 2021. Hike in was 6.9 miles, 1400 feet in elevation according to all trails. Snow shoes might have been helpful as there was still plenty of (very soft) snow on the road and we post holed a bit towards the end. Cabin had a wood stove, two beds on ground floor and a loft accessed by storable ladder to get to two more beds. Had a picnic table and fire ring with grate outside. Beautiful porch to enjoy the views of the Valley during the snow / rain that came in. We filtered water from a creek (I think Wilson) that flowed about a 25 minute hike away. Would have been much shorter without snow since the road to the creek didn’t enjoy the benefit of sleds packing down snow that we could follow. There was no cooking stove, but cabin had pots / pans, grate for fire, and a roasting stick thing for sausages over the fire. Stove kept the cabin pretty warm, but temps didn’t drop significantly below freezing.
