A gem among so many FS cabins that have been neglected. Wood stove heats it up nicely. Clean and charming. We intend to come back often.

It felt as though we had the whole forest to ourselves. We walked to Bonneville Hot Springs twice (about 2 miles from the cabin). We enjoyed this comfortable and affordable lodging option. It's a queen-sized bed.

Just me and my doggy, a perfect outting. Trail in was well packed so snow boots all that was needed. Major post-holing off trail. Seemed shorter than 1.5 miles. Cabin was clean and in great shape. Keeping things simple, did not use the well supplied kitchen at all. Wood stove more than adequate for warmth. House mouse was a gracious host. Word of advice, trail map from cabin to the hot springs was missing and after hiking across the airstrip, multiple trails diverged down into the drainage. Being cautious, I backtracked to cabin and later hiked in from parking lot. In looking for USFS cabins in SW idaho I was surprised to see that ALL were completely booked out for the next 6 months, whereas 10 to 20 years ago you didn't have to plan far ahead. Another secret that's gotten out. I get it, personally I'd rather stay in a place like this than a 5* Hilton. Enjoy and respect this lovely relic

Second time staying at the Guard Station during the winter. It is a great getaway. The only complaint is there is not a can opener (and my pocket knife didn’t have one) so our meal was almost ruined ... saved by my skill with an axe. Also, during the winter there are no lights so make sure you bring fully charged lights of your own.

Beautiful updated historic cabin. Pots and pans left something to be desired, as I’m realizing is the norm for these cabins, but at least it had two big pots for melting snow. The previous guests left it immaculate. Hot springs were very popular but early mornings were still pretty open. Thanks for the great stay!
