The views can't be beat; but I wouldn't stay here again unless the water/electricity was on... and everyone should consider that they're going to share the Lodge with tons of mice. We stayed 2 nights late Oct. upon arrival there was mouse droppings on all countertops/cooktops & even mattress. In the morning it was clear they'd made the rounds again; one night there was one that was stuck in the empty trash can, couldn't jump quite high enough to get out so had to be "rescued". If I'm co-habitating with rodents I at least want to have access to warm running water for proper cleaning. FIREWOOD** bring twice what you think you'll need > we thought we'd have plenty & ran out the first night, day 2 was spent using the chainsaw we thankfully brought to cut firewood from the ample stacks of limbed lodgepole near the lodge. Lows were single digits @ night & low to mid 30's during the day - using the the wood stove & stone fireplace constantly never saw the indoor temp get above 55. In the winter I can imagine someone needs to be stationed to feed the fire 24 hours a day to keep the main room of the lodge comfortable... the bedrooms were SO cold . Warmer than tent camping but definitely an exercise in fireplace feeding! Not fishing & hiking as I had planned (still enjoyable though)... The fridge froze much of our food (even after being adjusted) The cooktop range works now- but the oven wouldn't light ... there is a small stone fireplace in the kitchen that worked well for cooking elk steaks in the cast iron & flame fed reheating some premade mac n cheese. Kitchen is equipped (pots, pans, percolators, dishes, utensils) -fashioned a small dishwashing station using the plastic tubs & refillable reservoirs that were there. Would love to see (& maybe FS does this?) A deep clean spring & fall to freshen up the place (re-weather strip/organize/area rug steam clean)... I volunteer as tribute! (as long as you turn the water back on :)

The beauty of the lodge setting and surrounding landscape is stunningly epic. The old lodge is such a gem of the forest service rental program. It’s a true gift back to the people to have it in the system. The lodge is well maintained. The new bed mattress is wonderful! Do not be misled but the inside photo of a large pile of split wood beside the fireplace. On our visit there was no chopped wood. Bring your own if you want a fire. There is a very strong smoke smell inside the cabin from the fireplaces and wood stove.

We had a good time. It was very cold. Spent most of our time hovered around the wood stove. View was beautiful.

This was my second trip into the lake. We went in to fish. The trip was great the lodge was great. We had to cut wood to stay warm. Cutting wood was a problem this time of year do to the amount of snow. The new restroom the forest service installed closer to the lodge was a great addition. I would tell people to bring a chain saw and be prepared to cut a lot of wood there was wood at the lodge but you don’t want to use it all so the next group can a least get a fire going to warm up after the trip in. Thanks for. A great time we’ll be doing it again.

The cabin provided comfortable shelter during a very cold week in October. The woodstove warms the main living area very well, and we moved the bunk beds out to the living room to stay warm at night. The forest service stocked the wood for our use! We needed an ax and hatchet to split the wood, but never needed the chainsaw. We caught two mice in the sticky mousetraps that we brought, but the house was otherwise very clean and ready for use. Green River Lakes has great fishing (we caught 3 rainbow trout), hiking, paddleboarding/kayaking, and in the winter, snowshoeing, snomobiling and cross country skiing. We've now visited in 3 different seasons and have had a great family experience each time!
