Clean, cozy basecamp for Chiricahua adventure. Kitchen is pretty well stocked with pots, pans & utensils, although rustically illuminated. Grill has seen better days, but oven broiler works fine. We missed seeing some of the old Coronado Forest Service posters/maps that used to be here. Surprisingly good wi-fi reception in the bedroom (really).

Wonderful place to stay. Million dollar view from the front porch. So nice to be able to stay in with my dog right by the creek, forest and trails. Not fancy but comfortable and functional. Great to be able to cook a real dinner and have a shower after a day of hiking.

Wonderful stay at Portal Bunkhouse! We wondered about the two front doors. There were not two units. Half of the unit is the kitchen, with a full size fridge, oven, table with 4 chairs, & microwave. There were lots of dishes, utensils, pots & pans. The other side of the unit has the bedroom & bathroom. We were comfortable. Lots of great hiking in the area. Hiked up to Silver Peak on our last full day. A beautiful dark sky with lots of stars, shooting stars, and the milky way. Spectacular scenery all around.

Great location for access to birding and hiking Cave Creek and area. Quiet with no neighbors near by. So fun to sit out on porch (bring your own folding chairs) in the evenings, watch the procession of “bug eaters”, flycatchers, swifts, bats, nighthawks, then sounds of poor-wills and owls! Comfortable and clean but remember to bring your own towels, and that you have to clean the place before you leave. Only suggestion for manager is add some more lighting in the kitchen, over sink and stove would help.
