We had a wonderful 5 days at camp 41/2. We celebrated my 65th birthday with hikes, bike rides and wandering the river's edge. We had glorious views of the poppy covered hills and the sounds of the river. The cabin is very comfortable and stocked with most everything we needed. There were no trays to make ice. Fortunately we brought some and left them for the next guests.

Very quiet, secluded place to get away from it all.

Wonderful cabin, isolated. The cabin is just a short (1/2 mile?) drive beyond the end of the pavement. No hiking trails per se, but walking up or down the gravel road is pleasant. A nice beach is a short walk away. Go wild cooking great meals. Bring books and games. There's no cell reception, which allows great family time.

We enjoyed our stay!! Kids had fun exploring the river and playing board games. I enjoyed being off the grid (no cell service)! We did not have any luck with finding a good hike, so we walked along the river. I highly recommend arriving during the day and using the directions on the recreation.gov website- via the tiny town Piedra. (4wd recommended east of Mill Creek Campground). Cabin was well stocked. Remember to bring towels- kitchen, paper, bath, hand. Some cleaning supplies were provided, but I was glad that I brought dish soap, all purpose cleaner, disinfectant wipes, trash bags and extra roll of toilet paper. A battery/solar powered light/lantern for the bathroom at night when the generator is off. As with other NF cabins, you are expected to clean the cabin before leaving. Thank you prior occupants, the cabin was nice and clean:). We did not see/hear any rodents, but we kept food in plastic storage totes and cleaned up regularly.

The place is so peaceful and quiet. The drive in was about 1 hour 45 minutes where we were coming from but it was very scenic and a lot of turns but well worth it. This is the kind of place that if you want to get away from it all this would be it. We only saw 1 person drive by at the cabin and a couple of cows :). Really enjoyed the stay here. At night once the generator is shutdown it is pitch black in that cabin but if you raise the shades you can see the stars shining so bright. We will be back.

The cabin was in great condition. Everything was clean and taken care of. Lots of wildflowers nearby and the river was roaring!

Google maps got me all the way including the 1 mile dirt. Long haul but scenic. But it is quite isolated in April, except for the firshermen/women. River was way up with deep quiet pockets of still water with trout jumping. The cabin is quite nice, in spite of the generator for electric. Without it, you need a match to light the stove, for example, but overall one of the best yet!

Very nice accommodations. Cabin all well maintained and cleaned perfectly. USFS maintenance personnel went above and beyond and getting problems issues resolved before we checked in. Very much appreciated. Beautiful spring scenery along the river and gorgeous drive up to Black Rock Campground area. Nice hiking up Davis Road as well. Highly recommend this cabin and surrounding area.
