Had a great stay at Ibex Cabin. There was a fair amount of wood in the shed and some on the porch of the cabin. I recall the axe head being quite loose, so heads up, literally. The recreation crew for the FS is doing a great job to keep these cabins open for the public to use.

This cabin is beautiful--a beautiful setting, small and snug, extremely clean and neat. It was neg 12 degrees when we skied in, which was intense, but otherwise the distance is just about optimal, enough to make you feel you did something, but not a death march. The previous party left a nice little pile of small-cut kindling, for which we were very grateful. Melting snow for water was fun. We had beautiful cold powder snow for skiing the little basin where the cabin sits. The kids worked on learning telemark turns. Altogether a benchmark family experience.

Excellent destination. Cabin is very snug and cozy, views are fabulous. Cabin has few kitchen amenities, so be sure to bring everything you want yourself.

The approach to the cabin is straightforward along USFS access roads in the winter. Although we snowshoed in, I highly recommend skiing in as a quick and relatively moderate-effort means of getting into this cabin. The cabin itself is a wonderful, rustic accommodation with a Coleman cooking stove, gas lantern, and some minimal supplies (including toilet paper for the outhouse). Bring your own gas canisters (Coleman propane) for the stove. The only complaint about this cabin is the wood stove -- it is small, and does not produce much heat. If you are sitting around it in close proximity, it works well. I would have figured the USFS to install a larger wood stove upon constructing this cabin that would "fit" the room to be heated (especially as the cabin can be accessed via roads). If you are a "cold" sleeper, the winter night could be a cold one for you unless you keep the stove fed throughout the night and have a warm bag. All this said, the cabin is a great destination for a night on the threshold of the Crazies!

Great little cabin tucked up in the crazies. Much better skiing nearby than anticipated.

So fun! We ended up having to park the furthest distance away due to snow and an incoming storm (didn't want to risk coming back to a snowed in car), our teenager had a slow go of things so it look us about 3.5 hours to ski in (and 2.5 out) the full 5.5 miles. Cabin was well stocked and the trail in was also marked well. Looking forward to coming back! Note for the Cabin crew: great job! Love seeing your comments in the log as well. Just an fyi the log is almost full.. only a few empty pages left!

Great cabin. We stayed there for 3 nights in the middle of January. It was clean and stocked with plenty of firewood when we got there. We did some backcountry skiing. It was fun, but there was a significant amount of skinning over dead & downed trees. Be prepared for some long approaches if you plan on doing the same. Ibex cabin was a perfect place to stay for those nights.

Decent little cabin. It's pretty small, or as some would say "cozy". It wasn't as well stocked as other cabins we've been to, but we always bring what we need, just in case.
