We've stayed here many times over the past 30 years. It's definitely gone downhill a bit since we first started visiting: no more refrigerator, fewer working propane lamps, no trash cans, and some comfy chairs have come and gone. But it's still a great place for a getaway in the woods. We had some difficulties with the heating stove, but managed to keep it running until a Forest Service employee could come out with a replacement battery - thanks USFS!

We had such a blast days in this cabin- very cozy and room for more if they prefer to sleep on the floor. I really enjoyed the pictures inside the cabin and the way our ancestors used to live. Very rustic place

This was our first trip to the cabin, the kids gave it a thumbs up for a return visit. The cabin itself is so cute and has the just right feel of comfort and rustic. The previous person left it clean. It was very fun to experience life without electricity or running water. The only disappointment was that the water pump wasn't working. Had I known that I would have brought disposable dishes to lessen water needs and I would have planned meals that did not rely on boiling water. There were empty plastic jugs under the sink and we used those to bring water back from the Rangers Hole and after boiling the water we had hot cocoa and let the rest of the water cool overnight for drinking. My old bones had a hard time sleeping on the very hard futon. The hikes to Murhut Falls and the Ranger Hole were just right for my old bones as well. Teenage kids loved it. Best part was unplugging from all technology.

Gear cabin beautiful. Very crowded parking lot, one guy gives mushroom tours every day from there expect the parking lot to be completely full by 10am and then die out in the afternoon

All appliances (heat, range and lights) worked as advertised. Wish there was running water and a dedicated out house though. The outhouse shared with the day hikers did not lock. The bed mattress covers are dingy and worn. Overall a great experience. And one more thing...we are foodies and Halfway Hous in Brinnon was below par. Homemade croutons on salid were rancid as was the pie crusts. Eating options in Quilcene are much better!

The place is great. Propane fireplace, stove, and lights worked fine. Make sure you bring a lighter for the lights and water for drinking and cleaning. There are plates cups, basic pans, and few utensils to use. The downside is the trailhead right there. People will walk up to the cabin while you are in there and peek inside. Even though there are signs stating to not enter the fence.

Cabin is rustic but cozy, lights didn’t work but one, also bring cooler and lights. The floor could use a mop, the water pump is not easy. the walk to the outhouse at night is scary! But the Ranger hole trail is awesome so is murhut falls! Must see!! I enjoyed sitting at the front porch with my wine listening to the rain.
