We love the Meadows Cabin. We found it relatively clean; if we clean and wipe everything down when we get there we enjoy our stay more and it is an easy quick clean when we leave. We could not find the ax, but plenty of wood was available and some had been split. Also the match box was empty. We brought our own supplies but noticed everything was low. On other visits there has been soap, matches and other cleaning supplies. Maybe others have left them there. The river was high, the flowers in bloom or starting to bloom and the meadow lush and green. We saw some deer with huge antlers (lots of velvet), a snake on the trail, and what we thought were bear tracks on the mountain. We have never seen a bear at Meadows but we also thought we heard one on this visit. During previous years on other visits we gave seen lots of deer, moose with a calf, a mountain lion, a bobcat, snakes, sheep and sheepdogs and the rangers horses. We have enjoyed visiting 9 times. As we were leaving on the way back down to Alpine we watched and followed some kayakers navigate the river. That was fun to see. It’s a lovely spot, nice cabin and very quiet on a Monday/Tuesday visit. We appreciate the folks who take care of it and that we and others can enjoy the meadow and Meadows Cabin.

The cabin is great. I have lived in the area for 52 years and the Greys River road is terrible. The current ranger is not a good manager of the forest and lacks the ability to motivate and inspire employees to work hard. Lots of sitting around and not many boots on the ground actually doing what is best for the forest.

This cabin is in an ideal setting, surrounded by a river, streams, nature, wildlife. Great for hiking, sitting, fishing, whatever you enjoy. Meadows cabin has the necessities, but needs an update. Your stay depends on how the previous guests left things. When we arrived, it could have been cleaner. Plenty of wood. We had a great time.

Really needs to have a propane heater to help but once you get the fire roaring it heats up quick. Someone with less fire starting abilities would have a hard time with it as it was a tricky fireplace
