Good cell reception. Very cold water in the river. Very good clean water from the spring. No water in cabin , would be great if water to cabin was fixed. Good heater stove and refrigerator. Bring lanterns

I have mixed feelings about this place. It’s an amazing cabin that is set in a beautiful location. It is busy though and people come up to the cabin constantly. I grew up fishing the Fall River so it holds a place in my heart. I also stay in fire lookouts and guard stations all around Oregon and at most of them, I’m alone and away from any people. It is what it is, but this cabin is right off a paved road and a popular place for them to stop. The USFS does a great job maintaining the cabin. It is clean and nice, and the sign asking people to respect the renters does help. I did have a young fishing guide and his client use the picnic table while I was sitting in my chair by the river, which the sign clearly says to please leave that for the renters. At the end of the day, it’s a good base for recreation in the area. Early mornings and nights are quiet. If you’re looking to get away from it all, maybe go elsewhere. Thanks to you all at the forest service for keeping it so clean and tidy (and taking the trash out, I’m not used to that at other cabins).

Fall River is gobsmackingly beautiful. At the guard house you are right next to the headwaters. You can cross to the other side of the river or enjoy the area right by the cabin. It was wonderful to have heat on a cold May evening. The propane powered stove and fridge were great. We love rustic. We realized that when there are doors and heat, we expect a toilet. The pit toilet is also kind of public. Lots of anglers park in the parking lot next to the outhouse, and the highway is right there. It would be a real improvement if the toilet was repaired. Our other concern was the no dogs in the house rule. It's a sweet, and rustic place. Our dog wouldn't have damaged anything. We kept him cabled out back. Perhaps a pet deposit. Fire lookouts in Eastern OR allow dogs. Anyhow, we love the place and all the work volunteers have put in really shows. Repairing the toilet and allowing a dog inside would improve it for us.

First off it is a high traffic area for fly fishing and trail walkers. If you dont mind that and are looking to be close to an awesome Fly fishing hole right out the back door then this is the right place for you! I took the kiddo so it was real nice to be able to go back to the cabin and hang out throughout the day. We set up some hammocks by the water and although there is some traffic up front it’s also peaceful and beautiful. The inside of the cabin was well kept with a working propane heater, propane fridge, dining area, nice beds and comfy futon. My one HUGE problem with the place is the lighting. It’s listed as having propane lighting but it seems to have been removed. It now has 14 battery powered lights in the walls throughout the cabin. It’s a decent sized cabin and these battery lights take 6 AA batteries each. The batteries do not last very long.. there was ten batteries there and I brought 8 with me for flashlights. Almost all the lights were dead or almost dead when I got there. 84 batteries! It takes 84 batteries to fully run this place and they will only last the weekend. This system seems careless and NOT environmentally friendly. I do have several lanterns but I only brought one since I was relying on the inside having propane lighting. So just a heads up plan on a lighting alternative or come with 84 AA batteries.

Awesome location. The fireplace kept going out was the only issue. Having the river out the back door was beautiful!

This is one of our favorite forest service cabins to rent.

This place is lovely, and other than the hikers and Fall River looky-loos parking out front during the day, it’s incredibly private at night. A little on the expensive side, but beats sleeping in a tent and appreciated having somewhere to go when the weather got a little rough. Will book again. Thanks!

Great cabin/area/location. You have to share the parking lot and vault toilet with the general the public. There's no running water in the Station. Propane lights had been removed, but stove, fridge, and heater were working. Not sure what USFS will do about lighting in the future. (pv w/ battery?) It's probably not for everyone, but I've been before and would go again.

River is crystal clear and COLD. Saw bald eagles, osprey, mergansers, nighthawks, deer, and more just behind the cabin. Cabin has everything you need. Just be sure you keep track of the key, as the front door automatically locks. We had to crawl through the kitchen window at 11 p.m. more people around this year than last (flyfishers and tourists), but had it to ourselves early morning and late evening.
