We were there the second week of October. There was no snow on the ground but you can tell there had been some rain recently. The drive was as expected, slow and steady but nothing my crossover midsize SUV couldn't handle. The cabin was great. The propane fridge and stove worked fine. We didn't mess with the lights. The axe and hatchet are pretty dull and I wish I would have taken my stone sharpener to leave there. Luckily I had brought my own axe and I split quite a bit of kindling for the next travelers. I did forget my Open flame campfire grill next to the fire ring, and I hope it doesn't rust but whoever is staying there is more than welcome to use it. It's part of the La Barge Guard Station community now. Saw an enormous Great grey owl in the evening. It's wing span was insane. We didn't see any other wildlife, but it was pretty quiet throughout the night and I slept outside on top of the picnic table looking up at the stars. My wife slipped inside with the heated blanket and the propane heater turned up. This was such a great location for us. Would definitely stay there again, hopefully several days next time, and it's really inspired me to look for similar places throughout Arizona and Colorado.

The cabin was in excellent shape, the overall cleanliness was good. The location canโ€™t be beat, it is a beautiful setting surrounded by spectacular scenery. The USFS has done an exceptional job of upkeep of this historic building, the area is well maintained and the amenities were amazing for an isolated backcountry cabin. I appreciate the propane stove and refrigerator, a real plus for an extended stay
