Beautiful location next to a babbling brook. Wildflowers every where. There is a restaurant in Sumpter a few miles away.

We really enjoyed our time at Antlers Guard Station--quiet, cool on hot days, well supplied, comfortable. We did let the Forest Service folk know that there were remnants of a mouse/rat problem (none detected currently).

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin is one of the few we were able to find that is still open during the Covid era. The well water was a huge plus, and the gas fixtures and lighting worked well. The house is well maintained, very reasonably cleaned, and well supplied by past visitors. (We restocked some items, added a journal and some other odds and ends.) We enjoyed the location, about 40 miles from Baker City, we recommend a day trip there with some Paizano's pizza (pet friendly patio by the way), the City Park in Baker City is great for kids. We also went over to Sumpter to check out the dredge. And we spend some time close to the cabin, exploring roads, trials, the nearby stream (North Fork Burnt River), and the ghost town of Whitney. The only negative mark for the cabin (making it 4 stars instead of 5) is that it is situated right on the fork of a road that does get a fair amount of truck and offroad traffic, maybe 2-3 vehicles per hour. If someone's wanting to "disappear" into remoteness, this isn't the cabin. On the other hand, the people nearby were great and help make you feel very safe in the area.
