The grounds were great. Eagle Creek is cool, and we enjoyed access to many nearby peaks. That said, half of the cabin smells awful. Absolutely rancid. Unlivable. Thank heavens there is a door between the living room and kitchen/bedroom/utility room. We ended up just sleeping on the two couches (not futons) in the living room and avoiding the other half of the cabin all-together where the smell was decidedly worse. Everytime we came back inside it was a foul reminder of why we only used the indoors for sleeping. If we had brought our blow-up mattress we would have just slept on the porch.

Nice location near the Main Eagle Trailhead. Cabin was clean and cool when I arrived and everything was working fine. Took a nice hike up to Bear Lake and enjoyed sitting in the shade behind the cabin in the afternoons.

Wed have rented this cabin for over 20 years. Every year it seems to be worse. Years ago, it had a solar water system which allowed a fully functional kitchen sink, a toilet and shower in the cabin. It was also well cared for and maintained by the local ranger district. But years ago they turned off the water system which meant people stopped cleaning the cabin. It is now perennially dirty inside, as well as in the kitchen. The building is beginning to decay. The floor is becoming soft as the support joices rot away. The front door frame is rotting away. It's been ignored and underfunded in a criminal way. It advertises heating but the propane furnace hasn't worked in a number of years. It used to have nice propane lighting. But this has been replaced with inadequate propane light fixtures that do not create enough light for the cabin. With all of this decay, the price remains the same. It is now outrageously overpriced for what the cabin is. It reminds me a lot of the cabin that used to be at White Lily, which was ignored to the point of abandonment by the Forest Service. One of the nice things over the years was a wood shack which they Filled with rounds of dry firewood. This also is no more. The Forest Service and the LeGrand Ranger District should be ashamed of themselves for the way they've neglected this historic CCC facility. It's hard for me to recommend someone renting it at this point.

There was a few problems with this place but it still deserves 5 stars. If I would've followed the normal directions and went in via Medical Springs it would've gone a lot quicker. Instead we made our own route up through Carson since we started our day over by Hell's Canyon. Pretty remote forest road driving which took a long time but it was very pretty and we only got lost once. The cabin is really a just big kind of smelly house. the Smell either comes from the propane powered appliances or a cleaning solution. Anyway by the end of the 2nd day we were used to it. It was buggy in June. And the front door is super janky and irritating. The adjacent creek was gorgeous. In fact the entire Eagle Creek is beautiful. We took the trail at the end of the road for a day hike but it was tougher than I was expecting. If you go, at least try to make to the big bridge a half mile in or so. It was all switchbacks after the bridge and I bailed out.

A great spot with a lovely meadow and easy access to nearby trailhead. The oven was not working (baking part) when we were there and the kitchen is pretty dark - bring a lantern or two.

This is a gorgeous spot, and we come with horses, so we've been willing to put up with the inconveniences. The USFS suffers from budget cuts, so few funds are available to maintain the cabin, and the amenities are declining. Up until about 5 years ago, the cabin and corrals had running potable water and a shower and toilet. Now all water has to be hauled in. We miss the water. We couldn't get the oven to work. Several of the hanging propane lanterns don't work, but it was summer, so daylight helps. We had to clean up the cabin when we arrived, but that is the fault of the previous users. We left it cleaner than we found it. I'm sorry to see such a marvelous resource allowed to decline.
