Weather prevented us from going on the trip but we will try again next Fall.

May 1 2024. There was a decent amount of Propane fuel left and 3/4 tank of heating fuel enough for 3 nights probably. Couple decks of cards but bring some lighting if staying up late.

Very nice cabin. Getting there by packraft from the 9 mile bridge is probably easier than hiking, especially if your backpack is heavy.

Eagle cabin on the Situk River was very nice. After spending a couple nights in a tent on Canon Beach , it was a pleasure to get off the ground and have room to move around! A few folks before our stay left quite a bit of supplies & food in the cabin which was a surprise to us since we read that you pack out what you bring in! It was a little disappointing to find all the dirty pots and pans! We stayed with snow still on the ground so it was a bit chilly in the cabin and had to run the heater all day & night. You will need about 2.5 gallons of diesel fuel a day if you plan on running the heater full time. The only thing that Was needed was a ladder to climb up to pour the fuel in! It is about six feet high and very hard to add fuel over your head on a stump! All in all we really enjoyed staying there! The fishing was great!

Cabin could really use newer windows and a more efficient stove/heater. Cabin leaks out heat like a sieve. Stayed for 6 full days and burned through 7-1/2 gallons of kerosene, that’s even with turning heat to lowest setting all nights but 2. On those 2 nights we shut heat off completely to conserve to make sure we would have enough to last the trip. On lowest setting cabin is barely warm at all really only directly in front of and above heater, definitely not enough to dry out wet fishing gear. If sleeping on bed by table opposite of heater forget about feeling any heat at all. There is was too much air leakage around windows and door. It would be nice if the forest service or whoever is supposed to maintain these cabins actually maintained them instead of only caring about the runway. There was ice buildup in bottom of fuel tanks as always, never any firewood, but at least cabin was clean. I just wonder where all the $ that they get for renting these cabins goes??? There never seems to be any improvements to the actual cabins, and there is never any firewood stored under the wood sheds. After all that I will stay here again because it’s still better than tents in the fall. I may not stay at cabins that late in the year again though. We had to portage our rafts and gear over or around 3-4 log jams this year that has never been an issue until this year.
