Stay at the cabin was wonderful. Just wish we took the other reviews a little more seriously. The trail, or what is left of it, is in terrible condition.

Beautiful location. Trail needs some work, but amazing views from the cabin.

Love this cabin, spend a lot of time there. But when my girlfriend and I arrived the last "campers" had stuffed all their empty mountain house meal bags into the fireplace, lit them on fire threw some half smoked cigarettes on top and walked away. So the half burnt plastic remains gave the cabin a lovely smell with undertones of pre smoked cigs. Now, who ever you were to leave such for the next person let me educate you on something. 1st if you can't pack out a pound of trash you probably should stay home. 2nd if your too lazy to pack out your trash don't burn it inside the WOOD burning stove (It took hours of burning clean wood to burn out the smell and then scrub the garbage ash out of the stove so no one else had to deal with your laziness). But not to worry! My dog who weighs probably a quarter of what you do begrudgingly hauled your trash out for you.

The cabin was in very good condition and was nice to have propane provided. My only thoughts for improving the experience is do some work to the trail itself. The area from mile 2 to mile 3.5 or so needs some serious attention as there are some trees down on the trail, bridges that are in disrepair so is some of the boardwalk. This section causes people to leave the trail to go off the trail to proceed slowly damaging the area around the trail.

Can't say anything about the cabin since we never got to see it. After a mile or two the trail was in terrible condition. Several places were washed out and eroded by the river or swallowed by the swamp. Wooden walkways and bridges were rotted and broken and at some points it seemed like the trail just ended due to the flooding and overgrowth. Regardless, my husband and I are experienced hikers and pushed through, but an enormous fallen tree put an abrupt stop to our journey very close to the end. We could have made it but neither of us wanted to wade hip deep in acrid green swamp water to get through. Very disappointing... If that trail was routinely maintained it would be a pleasant and easy hike without hardly any elevation gain or technicality to it. In its current state though, I would not recommend the enormous effort it took to get as far as we did only to have to turn back.

The cabin is in a GORGEOUS location and well taken care of. The only downside is the trail to and from is a bit destroyed in areas from downed trees or age/time so it's a bit of a jungle gym. Bring poles and wear all your rain gear!

Eagle lake is beautiful and it's always great to see another glacier. The cabin is mostly in great working order. The bug screens in the loft space have big gaps that allow mosquitos in. They could potentially be unbent, reseated, or taped to resolve this. The trail is challenging due to mangled fallen trees (starting 2.5 miles in) and unmaintained swampy areas. This trail includes sections which are permanently flooded, so bring your xtra tuffs even on dry days. Overall, the cabin location is underrated and the trail miles (5.1? 7?) are well earned!

The hike was rough, flooded trail, fallen trees over the trail, and wildly overgrown. But the cabin was amazing! It would have been nice it the little shelter for wood had actually had any inside. I would have loved if there was a canoe or kayak so we could explore the water a little more. But the trail to the nearby waterfall was nice and the cabin was warm and dry.
