What a gorgeous location, even in Fall. In Spring the wildflowers would be everywhere. There is wildlife to be seen; birds, deer, squirrels. The views go on forever! There is a somewhat steep, 1 mi-ish hike going north along the ridge that is well worth taking (2 mi round trip). There is a longer hike going south along the ridge that is also beautiful, although we only walked a short piece of it. The lookout itself is a comfy place to spend a night or more. The last 1/2 mi of the drive in is quite rough, be prepared to take it slow and in 4-wheel drive.

As with all lookouts, wonderful views. Great star gazing with very little light pollution. We were lucky to have 3 calm days (most lookouts are very windy). Take note, do not get this lookout confused with Mt Baldy Buckhorn like we did. lol. Nicely maintained. Love the propane stove (2 burner) and heater. The supply line is a wonderful amenity and made bringing up, then down our (voluminous gear). Bring good gloves to handle the rope tho. Double mattress and twin mattress, so if you have more than 3 people, bring camping pads. Lots of utensils, plates, dish soap, etc.. left behind. Screen shutters great to keep the many flies out. 4 wheel or front wheel drive best to navigate the last 1/2 mi. About 30 minutes from pavement (68) to the lookout. Gate and trap door code is the same. Went to Rainbow lake and Loon lakes, neither were good for swimming and even pooch got really muddy. Rainbow was at least picturesque. There was a well traveled path to lake, about 7 minutes to walk. But overall we would not go back to those lakes again. Overall, I would go back if I can get a reservation. Gets tougher each year with the popularity.

The ransom fire started when we where there and witnessed it grow. Neat to experience that.

This tower is always great. It was clean upon arrival. We were surprised that there were no matches or lighters there. There is usually a plentiful supply of them. We always appreciate the screened windows and door which allows air flow. We love that the road is gated which prevents others from driving up. There is several resident deer which are a bit aggressive. It's obvious that people are feeding them. Not a good idea.

Staying at Baldy Creek Lookout Tower was an unforgettable experience. We brought our own bedding, water, and food, but were pleasantly surprised by the stash of card games, dishwashing supplies, and thoughtful little items left by previous guests. The stargazing was absolutely breathtaking—I've never seen stars like that before. Watching the night sky from the tower was a magical moment I’ll cherish forever. We also spotted plenty of wildlife from our birds-eye view, which was really cool. I'd absolutely recommend this place to anyone, and I’d love to return someday. The drive up the mountain is slow and steady, but totally worth it!

Beautiful 360 views! The stairs are a bit steeper than they look but are do-able and there is a pully system to help with getting your items to the top. Lookout itself has 3 windows that open and is bigger than some of the others we have stayed at. 10/10 would recommend.

Clean, well maintained, newer paint. Three opening windows with screens is huge help for keeping the inside of the cabin cool. Really appreciate the gated access to help keep other people out while we enjoy our time at the tower.

Absolutely thankful to the Forest Service that they chose to share these fire lookouts with all of us. Our history of these towers can teach us so much, and spending a night is a special experience I hope many many more will enjoy as much as we did.

The kitchen was well stocked and appreciated that propane was provided. Views are great! Directions didn't mention you had to unlock a gate to access the last stretch of the road to the lookout. The road after the gate is rougher as other reviews mentioned.

We had 2 amazing nights at the lookout. Clear skies for amazing stars. We took a short hike off the road, at the signpost closeby, and followed the stone markers. Mostly we just sat n enjoyed the quiet & beauty. Highly recommend following the directions from Libby. We charted our own course from Eureka and had a long drive with lots of downed trees.
