Nice to see the Cunningham Cove and Peavy trails have been cleared all the way up to the Elkhorn Crest trail. It's great to be able to just head out of the cabin and spend the day hiking. Saw a couple of juvenile black bears while hiking the Granite Creek trail (hope they learn to flee from humans before hunting season starts). Also hiked to Van Patten Lake, a steep hike to a good Brook Trout lake (an alternative to Crawfish Lake if you've already done that). Didn't have the chance to try Baldy Creek trail (I guess I'll have to come back again next year).

Great place. Rustic and quiet. Only complaint was the futon mattress. Very hard and uncomfortable. Bring a pad or cot for everyone. Gas heat worked great. Lights are pretty dim. Good fridge and oven/stove. Nearby outhouse is very nice concrete building. Trailer spot on sight. Road in was easier than expected from description. Mind you this was August. If you go keep it nice. This place was a treasure and I intend to go back.

The cabin and the setting were idyllic, and access to river and Elkhorn Crest trails each day lead to days of adventures!

Very nice cabin located in a secluded valley near the Elkhorn Crest. You can either head up to Anthony Lake and the Elkhorn Crest area or explore sections of the North Fork John Day River (many opportunities to hike and fish in both areas). Excellent fall foliage in October. The new central heating is nice to have early in the morning to get out of bed.
