We usually have a great time. But not being able to use the propane for the lights or heat was no fun. By the time I was told about the propane issue it was to late to cancel the reservation. Spent one terrible night and came back home.

The cabin was great. Everything was working properly and it was clean. I would suggest lots of soft bedding in your pack in list. Other than that I was so impressed with everything. Loved it so much!

if you like dust this is your place , no screens on some windows so lots of bugs come in . hot water gas switch was not always working like it should , lots of atv noise from road ,,beds were dusty and uncomfortable ,hot in cabin and using appliances made it worse , used a battery fan but not much good it did but stirred up dust ,,lots of gnats biting us .only good thing was it had hot water and a shower that worked now and them with hot water , mostly warm had to turn it off and on every 5 minutes to get hot .needs a good cleaning .

I had a great stay at the Guard Station this past week, just myself and my two dogs. It's isolated, yet not isolated; the Big Springs Campground is nearby, in addition to private cabins and boondocking camp sites along the road. During the summer there are grazing cattle just around the corner and of course the always present ATVs that were mostly just annoying and didn't detract from my stay. The creek near the cabin is hard to get to as there is massive amounts of willows and the ground is soft under foot. You can access the creek much easier by going down to Big Springs or along the road on the way to the cabin. The amenities are as described, and worked perfectly: propane stove/oven, hot/cold running water, shower and propane lighting. There is limited cookware and dishes, I didn't use them but if I had forgotten something it's nice to know they are there. Pro tip: bring a sleeping pad or other cushioning if you intend on using the bunk beds. I used doubled up sleeping bags and blankets and it was fairly comfortable. There are lots of flying insects and mice can be a problem, although none were present during my stay, just evidence of prior occupation. I was able to get a cell signal at the top of the driveway (t-moble) and was able to check my messages a couple times a day. There is an old barn and corral area and a dilapidated workshop/garage that can be explored, in addition to the cow camp next door. During my stay there were plenty of wildflower blooming and tons of birds if you are into birding. if you bring your dog they will have a blast exploring and sniffing everything.

Potential renters should be aware that -- despite what the photo shows -- there is NO refrigerator in the cabin. This is NOT mentioned in the "Need to Know" section of this webpage. (It IS mentioned at the very bottom of the Reservation Confirmation email you will get AFTER you have paid for your reservation. I did not notice it way down there in the fine print.) I arrived with a load of perishables, so the next day I had to drive to town for a cooler and ice, and buy more ice every day thereafter. If I had known that there was no fridge I would have rented a different cabin at a cheaper price. Despite the above, I did enjoy the warm water shower, gas stove, ample space, and the comfortable beds.

Wonderful surroundings. Isolated enough for our family to feel separate from the millions of others who were camped along the creek and at the campground. Cabin was awesome. It was great to have running water! The outhouse smelled like hand sanitizer and NOT like an outhouse! That was a big plus!
