Stayed at Aspen Cabin then Drake Peak, got to check out some cool Petroglyphs near Adel. As others have commented there is a window that’s broken out but is patched very well at this time. Lookout holds heat well. We took care of the flys immediately upon arrival and they never bothered again. Be aware only 1 Cot is in functional condition. We found one damaged outside. The good - The views are spectacular. We had really good weather, stayed for 3 nights. Very peaceful. The sunsets/sunrises were amazing! Star gazing - amazing. So many butterflies during the day! The gas stove was great! The cabin ( while does need some maint., was great). The outhouse was fully stocked & clean! The Bad - the cabin needs some attention- broken windows, gas lights inop, kinda rough! Flies & more flies. - they will get into the cabin by the dozens due to the lack of maintenance on the cabin. Overall we had a great 3 nights at the lookout. I would recommend it to anyone. Just wish they would do some maintenance on it.

A beautiful location. It’s too bad the structure is falling apart. There is not much upkeep going on around here. The place won’t be standing much longer at this rate.

Beautiful views and a great experience! This lookout is one of the easiest to drive up to among the 18 I have stayed at. However, since the lookout is worn and showing its age, there are a few things to consider. It's best to bring your own lights, as one of the propane lights is broken, and there were no mantels (standard ones should fit if you're coming soon). Please be aware that, like most lookouts, the windows don't fit closely, and there are no screens. To address this, bring some blue painter's tape, which can serve two purposes. First, if bugs are bothersome, you can use the tape to plug holes and remove it before you leave. Second, you can order cheap screen material and tape it with the blue painter's tape over the windows during your stay so you can open the windows, and then remove it when you leave! Despite these considerations, it's still a fantastic spot to stay, offering stunning views and a memorable experience.
