Fantastic location, house has a ton of character and charm. Firewood was out so we couldn't build a fire in the bedroom wood stove (the main fireplace in the living room remains boarded up anyway). If you want a fire bring your own wood! Space heaters worked relatively well to heat the place otherwise. Hot water heater was out, which is new compared to when we stayed one year ago. Showers were chilly! On the whole a super cool spot, would love to see a little investment into maintaining the place!

The Shaw house is set in a beautiful setting. It's 100 years history shows in the floor plan and add-ons. The website needs to be corrected to show that 4 vehicles are allowed on the property. There was an abundance of cleaning supplies. The wet vac helped remove the rainstorm water that came into a low walkway. Required clean up asked renters to wet mop the floors. However, the mop was missing. Also missing were mugs and glasses to accommodate 10 people. Douglas Ranger told me that renters often remove items. The overabundance of damaged frying pans could be reduced. We enjoyed our family stay, using the spacious dining table for games and cards during the thunder/hail storm in the afternoon. Close to Cochise Stronghold for hiking.

Very beautiful. Cool historic Cabin. Good value for me, an outdoorsman... much better than sleeping in a tent. Had a stove, fridge, toilet, shower. It was a little hard for the women folk in the family... rat droppings on many surfaces, etc. Really liked having a defined yard for the kids to play. Bummer they blocked off the fireplace and removed the living room stove. Minimal water pressure in showers water was hot. No fire wood as advertised. I would definitely stay again. I'd bring my own pot/pan next time. Plenty there but not a decent one in the lot (flaking Teflon, no lid, thin).

I’ve been to a few forest service cabins and this one was very ‘rustic’ we even lost power on our final day. Mattresses were disgusting and one was covered in what looked like blood. The showers are terrible and come off as lazy. A large bathroom had a tiny RV shower shell in a wood frame box. The other one was the same tiny RV type shower. Also not many shaded areas to hang out and doesn’t have a covered patio or porch aside from a screened in sun room which feels very indoors. I know it’s a FS cabin and expect it to be ‘rustic’ but it sure seemed like some small things would really make it a sweet spot.

We really enjoyed our stay. The landscape is stunning. We only saw deer. Unfortunately, it was so windy we were not able to spend much time outside. Highly recommend reading the history of this wonderful cabin. You can find it in "the book". We will definitely go back.
