My friends and I hiked to this cabin on the first weekend in April. We were post holing for the way out and did our best to clear some snow from the boardwalks to make our hike out (and future hikers) a little easier/safer. We almost missed the river crossing despite helpful sticks pointing in an arrow but made it to the cabin in one piece. Due to the post holes, our feet were wet but the propane heater was awesome and dried out socks and boots as we waited for the second half of our party to arrive. We were able to play card games and have dinner and breakfast cozy in the cabin. No issues with the stove, which we use a Dura-log in, or the propane heater. Would love to go back in the summer to use more of the lake!

Trail in on a warm day made it difficult to hike in the snow without falling often. The hike out was much better due to re-freeze of the snow pack. Trail at the beginning is great, but not well maintained after a little more than halfway. Cabin was in nice order, and the propane heater worked just fine as well as the fire stove. Unfortunately when we returned to the trailhead our car had been broken into and stolen. DO NOT leave valuables or keys in your car. There is no cell service and there are no security cameras in the parking area.

The cabin was in good shape and clean, and the heat worked well! We enjoyed having a rowboat to use, and liked finding the historical records about the Peterson family. We rowed across the lake and found a cabin and other remains of old mining claims. We were disappointed to see that former users, in spite of clearly posted instructions, had left perishable food and unlabeled bottles of “mystery liquids” in the cupboards, along with many other items they carried in but chose not to carry out. Peterson Lake is a beautiful spot and we enjoyed our stay. The trail in needs some work, and there were only a couple of small child’s life jackets available for boat users.
