We loved this place. Such a beautiful view, and so quiet and peaceful throughout the day and into the evening. You are expected to bring your own linens, food, and any supplies. There are plenty of pots and pans for cooking, a full refrigerator with freezer. For us the bunkhouse was really clean, so thank you for the people who went before us and cleaned well! We tried to do the same for the next visitors. The earlier comments about lighting and heat are true. We ended up bringing an additional lamp for the kitchen, and I was happy we did. We also brought an additional space heater, and I was glad we did. Because it was mid-December, it got down to 32 at night, and the the baseboard heaters built in would not have been enough - when we first arrived it was about 58F inside.

What a wonderful place! The hiking, wildlife and scenery is spectacular! The bunkhouse is steeped in history. I loved the old kitchen sink unit and original oak floors. Yes, they could use refinishing but bring your slippers and it's fine. The mattress was hard, but we always bring our air mattress so were very comfy. Upon leaving we drove through the Chiricahuas to the Natl Monument. This drive was beautiful but all dirt and not for everyone. and only a fair-weather drive. If peace and quiet is not for you, don't come here.

I feel like this cabin should be the namesake for the whole "rooms with a view" program it is part of. Stay here, not sure how it is when Portal is busy but it is amazing when no one else is in the town. It can get a little cold and you should bring an extra light for the kitchen but otherwise it's awesome!

Clean, cozy basecamp for Chiricahua adventure. Kitchen is pretty well stocked with pots, pans & utensils, although rustically illuminated. Grill has seen better days, but oven broiler works fine. We missed seeing some of the old Coronado Forest Service posters/maps that used to be here. Surprisingly good wi-fi reception in the bedroom (really).
