Below zero temps were no match for the ripping stove at this lovely guard station. Miraculously, the spring never iced over all weekend. We saw lots of evidence of moose (and other wildlife) and heard critters visit the front porch after nightfall. It was an easy skin on our skis to the cabin and we arrived with it sparkling clean and well stocked, thanks to the FS folks who were there before us. Can't wait to return!

The cabin was awesome. The notice on the door about the fee increases was terrible. We try and stay in forest service cabins 6-8 nights/yr with our 2 boys. It’s always a great. Don’t double the price and price the 5th generation MT’s out. Please

Always a great adventure at this cabin. We skied in (2 mi) and saw no one on the trail. Two moose hung nearby in the morning. Cabin was clean, and stocked with wood, matches, pots, pans and some dishes, 3 regular cots + 1 oversized one.

Place is awesome. Stayed overnight 6/20/20; 2 families w/ young kids. Everybody loved it. Nice being able to drive up. Room to pitch tent right next to cabin. Super clean inside and out. Plenty of firewood for stove. Plenty of cookware. Beautiful setting. Only wildlife we saw we squirrels and birds, but read about many bear, elk and moose sightings in log book. Forest Service employee checked in w/ us before we packed up, and was very friendly and shared much knowledge on the area. Can’t wait to go back!

We weren't provided with any information about how to access the cabin in Winter, but luckily heard from friends that it was possible to snowmobile from the main trail. Due to snow conditions and an old map that showed grooming all of the way to the cabin, we found ourselves unable to make it the last 2.5 miles there. In the future it would be nice to be provided with more information on how to access these cabins in the Winter. We had to look hard to find the information we did have and most of it turned out to be wrong.

Suggestions: Xc ski, skin, or snowshoe in during the winter. Bring lantern or a few headlamps/flashlights. Bring your own newspaper. Bring a sleeping pad to create insulation between you and the cot at night. Cook food at home then reheat in tinfoil on stove while it's heating the cabin up. Please utilize the outhouse as it is located VERY near the cabin rather than going right off the porch. Saw 4 moose, boiled snow as water, played around in the mountains during the day. Will return again.....and again and again.

Wapiti is a favorite cabin for hunting. Reservations are competitive, but from this comfortable location we can hunt on foot or by traveling with an ATV to more remote starting points. Cots are comfortable and wood stoves for warming in cold November weather. This Fall I didn't have a moose license, but spent the better part of an hour watching a cow and two young bulls dance round and round in the willows along a stream.

A lovely, private, time with great hiking options near by. The journal of previous visitors was especially enjoyable to read.
