This would have been our fourth time staying at the cabin, so we knew not to expect luxurious accommodations. However, we expected it to be safe, at a minimum. Instead, we smelled a strong scent of gas when we walked in, and a hissing sound when we opened the oven. We tried calling the emergency number listed on the wall to no avail (when we called the rangers station later in the week — since it was closed the entire weekend — we were informed this was no longer the emergency contact. No explanation as to why it wasn’t updated IN THE CABIN.) We tried leaving the door open but it still had a strong gas smell. We used the little bit of cell signal to Google “gas smell” and were informed “If you can smell gas, GET OUT!” So we did, given that we did not survive Covid to die in our sleep from asphyxiation. We waited TWO HOURS in the ferry line on a Friday afternoon and then drove the long way back to Seattle for another three hours in the car, for a completely wasted Memorial Day long weekend. There was also no water; a broken refrigerator on the porch; and a broken light with a sign saying it would be repaired soon — but the sign itself was so old the tape was peeling off. Again, we have enjoyed staying in the cabin in the past but there is no way the $50 a night is being applied to taking care of the place. That is as bogus as the “emergency contact” number. I would no longer recommend staying here, and will not reserve it again (obviously). Very disappointed.

Booked this place for three nights. I unloaded my stuff and started making a sandwich in the kitchen. I opened the drwaers and they were full of mice droppings. I opened other things, like the oven, only to find more mouse droppings. I'm okay with washing stuff and using it, but the water pump outside was broken. So all I had was the drinking water I brought. The river 1.5 mile away and the campground up the road doesn't have running water either. So, in short it was filthy and there was no water. I packed my car and drove back home (four hours each way, wasting an entire day). Recreation.gov only refunded me $100 out of the $158 I paid. Stay away from this place.

Instructions say certain items are available which is incorrect: Much of the indoor propane lighting does not work - be sure to bring your own headlamps. Water for outdoor pump does not work - be sure to bring adequate supplies of bottled water. Futon when used as a couch is broken, does not work - you can sleep on the futon but not sit on it. Despite these problems, for two people the cabin was OK. During nice weather and longer hours of daylight this would be a good, quiet and fun location.

We visited mid-February and there was snow on the ground. I wouldn't say the cabin was "toasty," but it got warm enough. The pump was not working, so bring your own water. Everything was very clean and the Ranger made an extra trip to bring us new mantles for the gas lanterns. We had a great time! The water at the Ranger's Fishing Hole is an incredible turquoise. Water coming down off of nearby Murhurt Falls was spectacular! Be sure to also visit Rocky Brook Falls, not far away up the Dosewallips. Absolutely incredible at this time of year. Was fun learning about the history and imagining what it might have been like to live here back then. Winter is a quiet time to visit. Highly recommend it.

Previous occupants refused to check out when i arrived at my check in time. If this is what i have to go through i will not be going to these cabins anytime again soon.

What a quaint cabin with history! I would have liked to have known that there is no running water however, even from the outside pump. Perhaps a list of “what it has” and “what it doesn’t have” would be nice so I don’t have to overpack but am also prepared. Kitchen is fully stocked with plates, utensils, pots and pans, lots of games, but no fridge or water. I’d go back again for sure. Great location.

Such a special cabin and location. Very charming and comfortable and the kitchen worked great (mind, the fridge does not work). I plan to revisit again!
