Stay was fine. They are in the middle of some improvements which would have been nice to know about prior to our stay. Also, the solar power system was basically inoperable (battery not holding charge). There was a note in the cabin from September stating that the system would not hold charge, so it was a known issue. Again would have been nice to know about. Fortunately we brought enough lamps and batteries.

We've loved the cabins that we've stayed at so far from the Forest Service and we were happy with how developed the site was. However the cabin was very dirty when we arrived which was disappointing. Not the fault of the forest service but of other campers. We had also wished that the description was a little clearer. One part of it said there was beds, another that you needed to bring all bedding. There are no mattresses and although we brought sleeping bags we ended up having to sleep on the hard plywood. It's a nice place but has a lot of room for improvement, especially compared to other places we've stayed.

If I were in the area again and needed a place to stay, I wouldn't hesitate to book again. I would not travel here just to stay at the cabin however. There is no access to the watchtower which was unfortunate. Elk, mule deer and turkey were all easily found in the area. There were no mattresses on any of the beds.

Make ABSOLUTELY sure you call the ranger office for the lock combination DURING regular business hours - if it’s a weekend or holiday, you literally have no way to get the combo otherwise. Other than that - the cabin was wonderful except for the nearly constant stream of 4x4’s and ATV’s past the door and people stopping to check the place out. It all got nice and peaceful for the evening though.
