The location was great, we really enjoyed the solitude and beautiful setting. We came prepared, but some things to know that might otherwise ruin your trip: 1.) The bed frames do NOT have bedding including mattresses, you need to bring your own air mattress, or plan on sleeping on plywood. 2.) There is NO water anywhere nearby. There is no well, there are no streams, or even ponds. The nearest water is in Newcastle, WY, a half hour drive away. Consider that you will want water for more than just drinking; for things like washing, cooking, etc. 3.) There are flies, bring bug spray, citronella candles, etc. 4.) Basically, this place is camping in a wooden cabin/tent, you need to bring everything. We've stayed in 7 prior forest service cabins, this was the least equiped but for $45 a night, it was great!

Enjoyed the stay. The batteries for the solar system only held about an hour's worth of light (we only used one light). Probably need to be changed out to hold a little more charge. Minor issue, though. We had lanterns.

The 6 of us had a great time chasing turkeys in the snow.

We loved our stay at this cabin. I gave it a 4-star review because I feel like there was some missing information about what we needed to bring. For example, we did bring propane, but we didn't bring the right size (bring your propane from your outdoor grill). There were also some repair issues with the cabin like flooring that needs a little TLC. However, our stay was wonderful. The wood stove kept us nice and warm, and there was plenty of space to hang out with our kids. We enjoyed walking around the woods to explore. The roads were in better condition than I expected, but I'm still glad we brought an AWD SUV as they could be a little slushy or rough in spots. The cabin was easy to find. Make your reservation expecting a very rustic cabin in one of the most peaceful places I've been in the Black Hills. It may be busier in the summer but it was a quiet place to stay in the spring. I would definitely come back for a couple's weekend or with my kids.
