We love Peterson Prarie Cabin and have stayed here many times. Unfortunately, the cabin wasn't prepped for the snow this time, so we spent several hours clearing a path to the house, the wood shed, and the vault toilet.

Everything was up to speed aside from the rodents. There were live rodents in the trash can when we arrived. In the middle of the night they were everywhere. I know it in the middle of nature but I would appreciate a rodent free stay. A credit for our stay, or a credit towards a different cabin would be a nice gesture. Thank you.

With just two wall-mounted propane lamps on the lower floor level, there is not all that much light in the cabin at night in late fall. A number of battery-powered lanterns were provided, however it might not be a bad idea to bring your own favorite lighting. The hallway propane lamp tended to be a bit difficult to light. The gas stove was fine, and the full-size gas refrigerator was excellent. There is no running water, but used water can be dumped into the kitchen sink to drain away outside. The bookcase has a number of nice adventure and children's books. The cabin is wired with electric lights, presumably usable if the house is plugged into a generator (bring your own). Mouse/rat bait was seen, although there was no sign of rodents. It is not clear how toxic the closed-up-during-the-winter cabin may be due to any inside use of insecticides (per your own sensitivities). No doubt a fabulous place to stay when the weather is nice and the windows can be left open.
