Went on Saturday and it was not crowded, actually at noon we were the only people there.
Parked in 1st parking lot and inside gate area took immediate left, Do not do this if you don’t want to get barked at by 2 large and aggressive German shepherds! The man sat on his back porch and just watched as this 2 dogs try their best to escape his makeshift fence along the trail.
We had our small and gentle dog and he was terrified as were we!
Once past this, the rest of the day was so beautiful & on way back from doing complete RED trail, we detoured down Red/White and then White trail to walk back to parking lot under the high pressure power lines.
The red trail is nearly all Shaded! The huge pines and other trees make it quite back there and smell amazingly!
2 large deer ran across our path in front of us and we heard and saw many woodpeckers and hawks.
The picnic table overlooks the river and it was a very pleasant place to have our picnic lunch and take a break.
The bottom of the side trail out/back leads down to the waters edge and that too was very nice.
The route we took covered just over 4 miles and was just what we were looking for!
There were many berry filled bushes and we got to see a few Brush-Footed Butterflies and the ground of the trail near the river looked like the Yellow Brick road sometimes from all the lovely Yellow Jessamine blooms that had fallen.
We will definitely return again to explore many of the other trails at this location for sure!
Highly recommend!
We came back late afternoon 26 Feb 2026 and hiked the opposite side of the park, we did the White Blaze trail and it was Mind Blowing!
Saw Barred Owls up close, heard red shoulder hawks and saw them soaring overhead.
Found nest of active Florida Harvester Ants, which are truly amazing insects!
Saw so many kinds of lichen and fungus growing, again - mind blowing for Nature Nerds like us!
It’s a must do again!
Can’t wait to come back and try the Yellow Trail next!
Oh and there is a cool primitive camping site along the white trail too!

Great walking trails. Stated in the white/yellow trail which took us down along Black Water Creek, after it meanders off the creek, it dead ends back into the creek in a pretty spot.

Secluded little park that seems to be open 24 hours. Sandy trails through some prairie and into nice tall pine forest. Seems there's a spacious campsite you can reserve as well. (Though you can see houses through the trees) seems to be a popular horse riding location.

I've hiked these trails several times. Most all are considered level 1 hiking. Mostly flat, wide and sandy trails with the exception of the ones closer to Black Creek. The ones closest to the water are gravel with minimal inclines. Would be a good place for beginners and nice place to take your horses. There is a well on the property with a hose attached to it ... can fill water bottles or buckets/containers for your animals.
