Great cabin, in a beautiful location. There were two smalls oars for the row boat, bring in kerosene/heating oil for the stove. 15 minute muddy walk to the cabin from the beach.

Cabin was in good shape. Water cistern was mostly full. Trail to beach was abnormally dry. Clearly it had not rained as much as normal in some time there. We did not see any deer.

We both really enjoyed I stay at Log Jam. A couple of things that I think will be helpful to others is to know that the cabin has a fair amount of cooking pans and supplies that have been left by previous users, so really no reason to bring more. If you plan to fish in the lake bring a small electric or gas motor. It's not necessary because the boat has paddles, but it will keep you from working so hard especially if it is windy. I wish the cabin had a canoe instead of the aluminum boat. We had a lot trouble finding a pilot that had experience flying to the lake, it would be nice if there was a list some where matching pilots to cabins. The beach is probably about a 3/4 mile walk thru woods and is very interesting scenery. We did not see bears but saw signs of bears, deer and many other animals. There's first aid kits in the cabin.

Water level in the lake fluctuates frequently and there are many submerged logs around the perimeter so extreme care is needed while taxiing and docking a floatplane. A falling lake level can strand a plane parked on the beach and make it very difficult to launch again. So watch lake level closely.

Access to Log Jam Bay Cabin is by float plane or wheeled plane only, typically 45 minutes
from either Cordova or Seward.
Wheeled planes land on the outside beach strip at low tide. If a wheeled plane is used,
access is limited by tides and gear must be hiked to the cabin from the landing area,
located three-quarters of a mile from the cabin via trail. Click here for local tide
information.
Float planes land on the lake next to the cabin. In fall, winter and early spring, the cabin may
be inaccessible to float planes due to the frozen lake surface. Please contact the local
Forest Service Ranger District office at (907) 424-7661 for information prior to making
reservations for these periods.
