About Moser Island Cabin

Moser Island Cabin sits on the northern shore of Moser Island in upper Hoonah Sound, 48 miles north of Sitka, Alaska. The wood cabin, built in 1991 by volunteers from Sitka, is available year-round and makes an excellent base for experiencing and exploring this corner of Alaska. This is a remote site. The cabin can be accessed only by floatplane or boat, weather permitting. From Sitka, it's a 30-minute plane ride or a two-hour boat ride. Visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring their own amenities.

What Guests Are Saying

Moser Island Cabin is always a delightful place to visit, known for its cleanliness and tidiness. However, there was limited firewood available, and the existing supply was wet. Overall, it remains a great cabin experience with room for improvement in firewood availability.

I know this cabin well and it is always a treat to visit.. My only recommendation is there was little to know firewood and what was there, was too wet..

The cabin was clean and tidy. The only downside was that the available firewood was fairly wet. It might be a good idea for the Sitka Ranger district to put their aluminum drop-bow boats to use and replenish the woodshed with some seasoned rounds of firewood.

Cabin was in great shape.
Plenty of wood, stove worked well.
Chilly Nov deer hunt. Had to break ice in the morning.

Loved the cabin and the location. Saw bears, swam in the ocean. Cabin was neat and clean and plenty of wood - thank you Forest Service! The only negative was that 3 small yachts anchored right in the bay in front of us. We were looking for wilderness experience so it was disappointing to have other people especially considering they could have Anchored in one of the neighboring bays instead.
