Glory Hole campground is all about powerboating, big trucks (even a big rig!), and partying. If that's your scene, go for it. If you prefer peace and quiet, look elsewhere as people don't respect quiet hours.
New Melones reservoir is the main attraction, but there don't seem to be nice beaches accessible from the campground to enjoy it from. There are some worthwhile walking trails in the area with great views of the lake.
We chose New Melones in part because it offers electric vehicle (EV) charging. Unfortunately, the charger does not work properly because it's limited to just 6 Amps, which is only 5 miles range per hour. Called the campsite afterwards - apparently that's deliberate because they don't want locals charging there, never mind that it also prevents campers from charging.

Very nice staff although they don't bring you your and you're tickets to put on your post until it gets dark and I'm almost ready for bed but that's OK very friendly very nice people.

Great place to dry camp. We used this as a base to travel to Yosemite NP.

One of my favorite places to camp when not busy. Beautiful vistas, interesting hikes, so many birds, and Murphy’s and Sonora nearby—both fun cities to visit. I love Angels Camp which is just up the road and has two grocery stores, dollar general (I like Angels Market), and several restaurants.
Hot showers, clean restrooms, and nice campsites not on top of each other. Good Verizon signal.
The gate at entrance does lock at 9pm. I’ve been locked out twice because I cut it close and with the gas station at the turn down Whittle Road now closed and completely dark I missed turning when I should. My tag was pulled even though I paid for multiple nights and my stuff was there (so save your extra car tag to use on campsite post if needed).
Water is lowest I’ve seen since I started coming in 2005. Dramatically lower.
Rec.gov needs to come up with a more affordable fee to use their reservation app. I used to pay camping fees at a digital kiosk at entrance and could skip $8 (!) fee each transaction. Give feedback so they make changes.

Always enjoy the hiking trails! Sadly the water is gone in some sections of the lake due to years of drought.

My wife and I love RV camping at Glory Hole! However, the on and off problems with the dump site not being usable is disheartening. This has been a problem for many years and the septic system should have been addressed long ago. And now with the price of fuel, the trip over and back to the Tuttletown dump is a nuisance at best. Also, the bathroom cleaning crew cleaned the bathrooms (Ironhorse) but failed to clean the handicap porta-potty in front of said bathrooms, and it needed cleaning far more than the bathrooms.

From Sacramento take 99 S, 88 W and 12 E to San Andreas. Take 49 S for approximately 15 miles. Turn right onto Whittle Ranch Road and follow the road 2 miles to the recreation area.
From Central California and the Bay Area take 80 E, 580 E then 205 E to 120 E in Manteca. Take the exit for 120 E/99 N. Continue on 120 E, then take 108 E to 49N. Turn left onto Whittle Ranch Road and follow the road 2 miles to the recreation area.
Glory Hole Recreation Area is accessible via State Route 49, which is approximately 10 miles away, providing connection to U.S. Route 50 and other regional roads.

- PLEASE HEAD STRAIGHT TO YOUR CAMPSITE UPON ARRIVALThere will be a reservation tag and 1 or 2 vehicle tags clipped to your campsite's post. Please leave the reservation tag on the post and place the vehicle tag(s) inside your vehicle(s) with dates visible. Contact a Park Ranger if you have any questions.
- At New Melones Lake there is a 14-day camping limit within a 30-day period.
- The recreation area entrance gate closes at 9:00pm. Vehicle entry after the gate is closed is prohibited. Exit at any time.
- During quiet hours, loud noise is prohibited. Excessive noise (audible beyond 50ft) at any time is prohibited.
- Camping fees include boat launch and day-use fees. Two vehicles are permitted in standard campsites. One vehicle is permitted in walk-to sites. All vehicles must display a campground vehicle tag or an overflow vehicle parking receipt.Vehicles must remain on paved roads and parking spots. Off-roading is prohibited.
- Campfires are only allowed in fire rings or grills in designated areas. Campfires must be attended at all times and extinguished completely before leaving.Campers may collect only dead and down wood for campfires. Chainsaw use is not allowed on property.During National Weather Service "Red Flag Warning" days and facility fire bans, wood and charcoal fires will not be permitted.
- All pets must be on a maximum six-foot (1.8 m) leash at all times. Leaving your pets unattended is not permitted.
- The dump station is out of order at this time.
- While recreating at New Melones Reservoir: CLEAN, DRAIN, and DRY boats and any other recreational equipment that comes in contact with water. Never dump unwanted bait, worms, fish parts or other organisms into the water. For more information visit https://www.invasivespeciesinfo.gov/ STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. REMOVE plants, seeds, animals and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. CLEAN your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site.
