What Guests Are Saying
Hosmer Grove Campground offers a beautiful, quiet setting with stunning birdwatching opportunities and easy access to Haleakalā National Park. Campers appreciate the clean facilities, friendly rangers, and the convenience of a nature trail nearby. However, the campground lacks running water, and some facilities show signs of neglect, with issues like limited level parking and unpleasant odors from bathrooms. Overall, it serves as a great base for experiencing the park's breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

I’m sure it’s a great place just the time of my reservation received a notice that campground closed due to excessive rain. Haven’t seen a credit…money isn’t a big deal but 1 star rating since didn’t get to go there and wasn’t proactively issued a credit. Happy camping!

Amazing birds. Quiet. Beautiful. I think I read everything before hand but didn't realize I needed to fill in a paper from the covered pavilion to say I was present.

The campsites are too close together in a small grass field, and it is at the entrance for a trail so there is a lot of foot traffic, noise, and lights at night. Feels more like a KOA/RV campground than an NPS campground.
I can't give it one star because the nēnē and the location are very nice.

We stayed at site 4 for one night. The birds and their birdsongs were ridiculously amazing. It was a great base to drive up to see sunset from (but watch for that pesky sun in your eyes driving up). We brought our ~25deg down sleeping bags and slept with them open like quilts and were comfortable, even though when we walked the nature trail in the morning there was some frost on the trail. After 7am we then drove up to the top again to hike a couple of miles down into the crater. Everything about this camp was convenient and we were happy to have snagged a spot.

I got cancelled out at 10am for the same night! Without contingency plan! Everything on the island was sold out! No excuse, no help.
I didn’t even got reembursed for my cancelled night.
I will say bad from Maui and NP forever.

Awesome little campgrounds!!! Gets chilly up here but wonderfully secluded and great stargazing! And the trail with all the marked trees is so awesome! Loved it here and gave us a great head start on watching the sunrise from the summit! Pro tip, the actual summit is NOT the best place to watch! Go to the visitor center and take the trail to the right that goes up a hill, it's about .5 mile uphill hike that most people don't bother to go to, much less of a crowd so much more peaceful viewing 😁

From Kahului it is 28 miles of scenic drive along the Haleakala Highway 37 to 377, but the winding road makes the drive pretty slow. Allow at least 1 hour 45 minutes from Kahului to the entrance station of the Park. You can stop in Pukalani for shopping or fast food.
Hosmer Grove Campground is accessed via Haleakala Highway (HI-37), which connects to HI-377, approximately 28 miles from Kahului.
