What Guests Are Saying

Hosmer Grove Campground offers a beautiful, quiet setting with stunning birdwatching opportunities and easy access to Haleakalā National Park. Campers appreciate the clean facilities, friendly rangers, and the convenience of a nature trail nearby. However, the campground lacks running water, and some facilities show signs of neglect, with issues like limited level parking and unpleasant odors from bathrooms. Overall, it serves as a great base for experiencing the park's breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

Perfect if you are well equiped : have what is necessary against cold temperature (close to 35F or 0 celcius) and against rainy days and nothing will stop you.
Place to eat under a roof, with drinkable water station and clean toilets.
And you have that amazing eucalyptus smell.
Love it

Beautiful location, the stars at night are incredible. We went in November and it was soooo cold at night, we thought we were prepared but it was too cold.

We had a rooftop tent for this trip, so parking was in the paved lot across from the grassy area. For car campers, I would recommend getting there as early as possible to make sure you can get a parking spot that works for your setup.

Otherwise, we loved staying here. We could see tons of stars, the restrooms were clean, and there was a short nature trail right next to the campground that we could go on with a bird watching spot. It got pretty chilly at night so be sure to pack blankets!

Great location and place to stay so you can stargaze and be up the mountain before sunrise. The campground is quite small and there are two bathrooms, a running water sink, and a drinking water fill dispenser.

We got in the park late at night around 10 pm, there was no one there just the campist that were already installed. The place is ok to camp. The restrooms are awful. It's a dry toilet that smells terrible.

It is quite cold and can be rainy at Hosmer Grove so bring appropriate gear. There is a short hiking area near the camp site. Potable water and bathrooms are on site as well.

Beware of illegal "local" campers who sneak in in the middle of the night. These "locals" may be people who live on island but are not actually considered locals or Hawaiians and they use the excuse that they are "locals" to sneak in to the camp site at night and illegally pitch tents in non-tent designated areas. the family I encountered were not very mindful and started a large fire in the grill station and then abandoned it while it was still on fire without any thought that their abandoned fire may start a wild forest fire. If you see people causing problems at the campsite, please report them to the Park Rangers so that appropriate actions can be taken.

Lovely campsite! It was raining and foggy when we arrived, but we pitched our tent under a tree, and by morning it was clear and dry. Great starting place for a beautiful sunrise-viewing, and gorgeous hikes nearby.
