What Guests Are Saying

Hosmer Grove Campground offers a beautiful, quiet setting with stunning birdwatching opportunities and easy access to Haleakalā National Park. Campers appreciate the clean facilities, friendly rangers, and the convenience of a nature trail nearby. However, the campground lacks running water, and some facilities show signs of neglect, with issues like limited level parking and unpleasant odors from bathrooms. Overall, it serves as a great base for experiencing the park's breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

The facility overall was very clean and nice. The only problem was that there was no drinking water.

Love that campsite, despite the fact that the rain was RELENTLESS the night we were there.

Can't wait to come back again someday!

We stayed in a campervan. If you don’t get there early, you might get stuck with a very unlevel site. Also, the water onsite doesn’t work. You need to get water from the visitor center—which is technically closed for repairs. We did love the nature trail.

I went with my boyfriend by the end of february. The weather there was so humid and cold that it was tough to sleep. It’s a primitive campground with basic bathrooms and no electricity. If you are sleeping in a camper van, make sure to park in a flat spot!
The good part is you can easily drive to watch the incredible sunrise at the top of haleakala!

Waking up at Hosmer Grove in February is a bracing, misty experience. The small, communal ground feels intimate, though the damp cold made lighting coal impossible—stick to a gas stove for that essential morning coffee! Its prime location is the real winner; being already high on the mountain makes catching the Haleakalā sunrise effortless. You’ll trade personal space for incredible birdwatching and the easiest summit commute on Maui.

Quiet campground! We got to see Nene birds here which was fun- although it made it a bit challenging to eat as they wanted to approach and we wanted to ensure they didn’t get any human food! Awesome for the morning to see sunrise:)
