What Guests Are Saying

Hosmer Grove Campground offers a beautiful, quiet setting with stunning birdwatching opportunities and easy access to Haleakalā National Park. Campers appreciate the clean facilities, friendly rangers, and the convenience of a nature trail nearby. However, the campground lacks running water, and some facilities show signs of neglect, with issues like limited level parking and unpleasant odors from bathrooms. Overall, it serves as a great base for experiencing the park's breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

Currently no running water at campsites. Plan accordingly. Beautiful bird watching in the morning after returning from sunrise at the summit. Parking at the summit full even with limited reservations. Bring warm clothes to layer.

Very beautiful site with tons of native forest birds flying and singing. Felt comfortable with area given, bathrooms within a reasonable distance from the campsite.

We had reserved one night at Hosmer Grove with a campervan. Upon arrival, I was unsure where to park as it didn't appear that parking at the campsite would be possible. Thankfully, a local woman camper was there who explained that car campers parked in the parking lot and pointed out where to sign in. There was a pit toilet near parking lot and a nice nature trail too. No water at the campground but water was available 1 mile up the road at the visitors center. We were able to watch the sunset the sunrise from the summit which were our primary purpose for staying at the campground so it worked out well.

Hosmer Grove is a great spot to spend a few days to witness sunrise/sunset, hike numerous trails and star-gaze. Wish there was something more than the parking lot for campervans. There is no water at the campground. The rangers are friendly & informative despite the staff cut-backs. Pack for all weather conditions since it does change!

No running water at the camp site. The grass hasn't been trimmed in ages. The area is as gorgeous as ever, but the campground is being seriously neglected. Very sad.

Not a particularly life-changing campground, but it was a great convenient location to stay at while visiting Haleakalā. It’s just a few spots marked by posts and picnic tables in a little lawn. The nature trail at the campground was nice. The water was out while I was there, but it is a very short drive to the visitor center for water.

We had a great stay at Hosmer Grove. The mist and birds are so beautiful, and it’s a great place to cool down from the heat below. We’ve been there before so we knew to be prepared for rain and cold. It was lightly raining on and off but it was still very doable. Our neighbors had a pop-up canopy that covered their tent and another that covered their picnic table, and that seemed to work well. So if you have this option, I would definitely bring it. However, the campsite has a covered communal area with grills so if it’s raining when you’re trying to prepare your dinner at your site, you have a nice cozy place you can use to cook and eat. I am sorry to hear about the experiences others have with loud parties going on, we did not have that experience either time we stayed there. I would definitely alert the ranger at the entrance booth if possible if that happens again. Same with if you arrive and do not have a place to park, as someone else mentioned. Each campsite group is allowed to park one car in that lot. Any additional cars need to use the overflow parking lot. You could pull up the reservation agreement to show other campers if needed, and hope they are not awful about it. By the way, you will get charged if you do not use your site, and they do check.

We had so much fun and it was awesome, except for the fact that there’s no water for some reason
