What Guests Are Saying
Hosmer Grove Campground offers a beautiful, quiet setting with stunning birdwatching opportunities and easy access to Haleakalā National Park. Campers appreciate the clean facilities, friendly rangers, and the convenience of a nature trail nearby. However, the campground lacks running water, and some facilities show signs of neglect, with issues like limited level parking and unpleasant odors from bathrooms. Overall, it serves as a great base for experiencing the park's breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

Great campsite with the essentials
Only missing showers but it is beautifully and perfectly located for an early start at the Haleakala National Park

We booked plot 1A and had such a great experience. This plot was furthest away from everyone else but it is nearest to the bathrooms and parking lot so we got more foot traffic than the other plots but it didn't bother us at all.

Campground with 7 parking spaces, available both for tents and campervan.
Toilets a bit spartan, no showers, but perfect to enjoy the sunrise at the summit.
In case of reservation for the night, the sunrise reservation is not required.
First two parking are flat, from the 3rd on they have a bit of slope.

Beautiful birding location; 30 minutes drive or so to the summit.

Very nice campsite. Quiet as it is far from the road and the campground seemed to have a mascot in the form of two Nenes that were popular with birders. Something to note is that it is pretty cold at night due to its elevation and site 2 (which we chose) is not as level for tenting as other sites.

Grills at each campsite plus two under awning when raining. Parking had room for a few camper tents.

I stayed with my camper van in the parking lot. The site you choose is for your picnic table and grill. It was good, the restrooms was clean. It was cold so be prepare !

The campground is probably the most sad campground I have ever been to.
The sites are all on a slope, wet, and crammed together. The bathroom smells awful, and the shelter is only 3 sided.
There is so much potential for this location.
Limited level parking spots for car camping.
Also, there is a hiking trail so people come and go all day from the campground parking lot.

The campground is in beatiful location. Peaceful place with lots of birds in the late morning. The site 3 is in the bottom in kind of valley, if rains a lot, whole water from up goes to that site under your tent. The terrain of whole camping is not flat.

From Kahului it is 28 miles of scenic drive along the Haleakala Highway 37 to 377, but the winding road makes the drive pretty slow. Allow at least 1 hour 45 minutes from Kahului to the entrance station of the Park. You can stop in Pukalani for shopping or fast food.
Hosmer Grove Campground is accessed via Haleakala Highway (HI-37), which connects to HI-377, approximately 28 miles from Kahului.
