What Guests Are Saying
Hosmer Grove Campground offers a beautiful, quiet setting with stunning birdwatching opportunities and easy access to Haleakalā National Park. Campers appreciate the clean facilities, friendly rangers, and the convenience of a nature trail nearby. However, the campground lacks running water, and some facilities show signs of neglect, with issues like limited level parking and unpleasant odors from bathrooms. Overall, it serves as a great base for experiencing the park's breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

Breathtaking scenery, clean facilities, dress warmly for the evenings and if you plan to make the summit. 50 degree mornings are a bit brisk.

I loved it here. The birds were amazing and it was special to be there during the tines when the day public wasn’t.

Very nice campsite directly at the foot of a huge Redwood tree. When we arrived in the evening ca. 17:00, two Nēnēs were visiting the neighboring campsite minding their own business. After building the tent we still had enough time to get to the summit to admire the sunset. Very nice and quiet spot to spend the night.
The one downside was that depending on airflow the stench of the nearby restrooms is wavering over the campground.

The campground was clean. We appreciated that our sites had our names on them, with clear instructions for how to check-in if the front booth was closed. The staff we encountered at the camp ground was all very pleasant and kind, taking time to answer our questions. Well done, Haleakala National Park!

We are lucky to have snagged a spot at the campground and have a perfect day on the sliding sands trail. However, the reservation system to get a spot in any of the campgrounds on Maui is quite stressful. Available spots disappear in seconds upon coming available. What adds to the frustration is that most the sites at Hosmer were unoccupied. We stayed for two nights and were the only tent in the first and 1 of 3 on the second night. Not good use of limited resources.

We loved the beauty of the park. The campground at Hosmer Grove was nice. We camped in a camper Van and had access to the sunrise without a reservation. It gets cold so prepare for the drop in temps. The bathrooms were ok and my least favorite part, but hey it's camping. Would stay here again without hesitation.

From Kahului it is 28 miles of scenic drive along the Haleakala Highway 37 to 377, but the winding road makes the drive pretty slow. Allow at least 1 hour 45 minutes from Kahului to the entrance station of the Park. You can stop in Pukalani for shopping or fast food.
Hosmer Grove Campground is accessed via Haleakala Highway (HI-37), which connects to HI-377, approximately 28 miles from Kahului.
