What Guests Are Saying
Doris Campground offers a serene environment with beautiful views, well-maintained facilities, and abundant wildlife, making it a great choice for nature lovers. Many campers appreciated the clean bathrooms and friendly camp hosts, as well as the opportunity for hiking and exploring the nearby Wichita Mountains. However, some guests noted challenges in finding water access and occasional litter left by previous campers, but overall, the positive experiences and natural beauty outweigh the negatives.

We stayed at site 26 this year. Unfortunately one night some college students (all boys) and stayed in the group site right next to us. Which is fine, however they stayed up all night long screaming and yelling. Sounded like fun, but was very difficult to sleep at 1am when they are swimming in December!! Just bad luck I believe, but overall the campground is pretty nice. Unfortunately the campground hosts were nowhere to be found in the middle of the night.

It was beautiful. My site was right next to the water. My complaints are that the campsites are way too close to each other and also there were local teenagers partying all night. They didn't buy a campsite. It was just a place for them to party and yell and act like fools all night. ALL night. If you want a quiet and secluded place to go this wouldn't be it. Otherwise, the area is great for outdoors enthusiasts. Fishing, hiking, etc.

Wild turkeys and deer were everywhere! Great photography spot. The only down side is that we didn’t realize there was only one water hydrant in each group of spots (a, b, etc). We didn’t fill out campers before we set up so my hubby added water with gallon jugs of water-rather tedious and annoying. Tons of shade although we didn’t need it in December 2024 but will be nice in the summer. Take a camera for some great wildlife and scenery pics. It’s beautiful in the Wichita Mts. There are several hiking trails, refuge visitor center, and lakes around the campground and refuge. We will definitely use Doris campground again and hopefully soon!
