Diamond Lake

We had a lovely camping trip this August at Diamond Lake. We hiked a portion of the path that goes all around the lake, rented a pontoon boat, walked to the lodge for breakfast several times. We we brought floaties and enjoyed be tossed around by the waves that occurred in the early evening. Fire activity had minimal impact on this trip (air quality was good). We drove to the West Entrance of Crater Lake and enjoyed hiking and incredible views.

After planning my camping trip for over a month. As the date got closer and closer there were horrible fires and I didn't even go. Unforeseen circumstance ruined my experience at Diamond Lake so I will see if I can't get some kind of a refund. I know it's not their fault it's nobody's fault but I had to scramble at the last minute because of the fire and smoke was absolutely horrific.

The lake is pretty

Due to the fires in the are we experienced several bears in our campground. There were no warnings even though it was known for several days before our arrival that the bears had been causing problems and did not appear to be afraid of the campers. We actually had one at the edge of our campground staring at us and was not bothered by the barking dogs, air horn we were blowing or any loud noise. We slept in our cars and packed up and went home the next morning. We had reservations for 7 days but due to the danger, we only were there for 2 nights. Camp host told us that the ranger called off the trapper that had been on his way.

Nice campground with large sites and most sites if not lake front have lake views. Biggest negative is a lot of the sites/driveways are on a big slant. If your RV or trailer is much over 20’ this will be a leveling issue.

The individual campsites are very large and the campground is huge (like 100+ campsites). I went during a weekend that wasn’t crowded (most of the reserved sites were empty, likely due to wildfire concerns) so it felt very secluded. That might be different with a packed camp. Diamond lake is stunning and my only complaint is that I wished I had gotten a site right along side it instead of right by the road listening to traffic. For anyone reading this, the “K” section is by the lake and “H” borders the street.

Stayed in B loop during late August. Fishing wasn't great due to the algae bloom, but the weather was spectacular. However I had truck engine troubles and had to leave for repair--this ended up taking several days out of my trip that I couldn't avoid. Terrible! But the camp host John was so awesome he not only helped me find an auto repair nearby (Well I say nearby, but since this is so rural the closest is in Crescent haha), he also watched out for my camper while I was away. Such a great dude.

We stayed here during our visit to Crater Lake. It was the perfect distance away if you don’t luck out with a camp spot inside the state park. Our campsite was so picturesque and right on the water! Being right across from the bathrooms had its pros and cons; the neighbors were a tad noisy at night. The water splashing on the rocks at night can either be music to your ears, or keep you up all night. No mosquitos during the first week of September but as soon as the sun goes down the flies, moths, etc come on like crazy! Our citronella candle turned into a flying bug graveyard and you couldn’t have light on without being bombarded. The trash cans were super protected and the showers were alright. Overall, worth the money.

I stayed at H03 and it was incredible. The campsite was clean and was sufficiently private. It’s a short walk to the lake if you want to watch the sunset. The toilets were clean and well furnished. Great place to stay if you are looking to visit Crater Lake as well.
