What Guests Are Saying

Umtanum offers a fantastic camping experience with excellent access to the river and well-maintained facilities, including vault toilets. The campground is smaller and quieter than nearby options, making it a peaceful retreat, though some sites lack shade. Campers appreciate the spacious sites, good internet coverage, and respectful fellow visitors, despite some concerns about heat and occasional wildlife.

The Ranger here was probably one of the best park rangers I've had experience with. The site, particularly sites by the river, was amazing. Loved the hike into the canyon.

I parked my Coleman trailer with plenty of room for a tent or 2 in my site. (site 2) There was no shade but my trailer has an awning. We were rafting on the river during the hottest part of day. My trailer battery kept my fridge running for 3 days and I didn't use power for anything else other than to put the awning out. There's a short walk two different directions to reach the river. There are vault toilets. This is a much smaller and more quiet campground than Big Pines. I would have given it 5 stars if it had shade. I had excellent internet coverage in my site using Consumer Cellular. There is no option to choose consumer cellular in the pop up menu. I didn't pay any attention to how many bars I had. I received one phone call that wasn't the best connection but I got YouTube perfectly.

Site #4 was amazing. We've been here before but if mid summer, other sites are just too hot. This one has shade mid afternoon into evening. SO much better. Easy access to the river and pit toilets are maintained well, never out of paper. Good choice since floaters start here and end down river so its busy early morning but don't have the end of day chaos that happens at Rosa. Nothing bad to say. Only a few reservable sites but a few first come, first serve sites that are free at this time.

Lots of space, close to the river and few campers. The only negative was not much shade and so many bees.

Spent one night in campsite 5, which had shade in the evening, but be forewarned, it is hot in the morning. Other campers were respectful and quiet, except one group who arrived after 11 to put up their tent. Most campers were gone early in the morning. Campground was clean. Did encounter what I am guessing is a rattlesnake, so watch out!
