I've been coming here for about 5 years, and this is still one of the best-value campgrounds around. It's affordable, has everything you need for a week of camping, clean washrooms and showers, a great little beach on the river, and it's close to golf courses, lakes, farmers markets, and the Fairmont Hot Springs. Pro tip: Go after 8:30 PM for the cheaper evening rate—it's perfect when you've got young kids.
I don't usually leave negative reviews, but this one's more for the owners than future campers. This place has so much potential, and it feels like it's been neglected. If there's a big renovation plan in the works, let people know, I’d happily update this review.
A few years ago this was an easy 5-star campground. Today I'd give it 3 stars. It's still a great deal for the money, but it's not what it used to be.
The biggest things that need attention:
- Fix the pool. It's been closed for years, and it's time.
- Bring back the playground. Every family campground should have one.
- Keep someone at the front office more consistently and stock the store with a few more essentials and maybe an ice cream freezer.
- The washrooms are surprisingly clean, but they could use updated fixtures, better shower shelves, and a fresh epoxy floor.
- One other thing: The campsite beside the river access should be removed. Everyone cuts through it all day to get to the beach, which isn't fair to the people camping there. Turn it into a picnic area and build proper stairs down to the river. Right now it's tough for seniors, and someone is eventually going to get hurt.
Overall, I still recommend staying here because it's hard to beat the price and location. I just hope the multi-millionaire owners start putting some money back into this place because it could easily be a 5-star campground again.
